Last week, Jamaica’s Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) launched the Tourism Innovation Incubator. The program has an objective of supporting Jamaica’s tourism sector.

The Jamaican Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said that the program has been created to nurture new and start-up tourism businesses that will present ingenious products and concepts to power the Blue Ocean Strategy and lift tourism’s competitiveness, as per the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

Bartlett stated that this inventiveness targets young innovative minds, for whom there are a lot of prospects for jobs, creative products, and groundbreaking ideas in tourism and hospitality.

He also said that the Blue Ocean Strategy offers Jamaica with a competitive plus point by providing visitors with an understanding or product that they can get only in Jamaica. The principal emphasis will be on developing and encouraging genuine Jamaican items, exploiting cultural and historical validity.

The Tourism Incubator will look for 25 pioneering ideas before putting the prospective businesspersons coming up with these ideas through a challenge similar to Shark Tank on cable TV.

All applicants need to be Jamaican citizens living in the country for the last 3-5 years and minimum 18 years or older by the submission deadline.

After the final choice of applicants, the incubator will deliver a diversity of services, comprising workshops to assist participants improve their ideas, research backing, pitch delivery training, along with scope of mentorship and networking.
