Jammu and Kashmir government decides to uphold Mansar as a key tourist destination

The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to uphold Mansar as a key tourist destination under the Comprehensive Mansar Rejuvenation and Development Plan.


This decision was affirmed at a video conference chaired by Union Minister of State, Dr. Jitendra Singh for discussing the draft Comprehensive Development Plan for Mansar.


Chairing the meeting, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that Mansar holds great prospective to be developed as a major tourist destination. He said that Mansar has huge potential for attracting religious and non-religious tourists while offering good connectivity. He also urged roping in other departments for the renovation and development of Mansar. He also asked them to include a wellness center in the development plan.


Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan also stressed that Mansar holds a great possibility for development and that needs to be explored and exploited to the fullest for attracting tourists.


The Advisor said that Mansar has come up as an important tourist destination in Jammu region with a large number of tourists and visitors thronging this lake. He said that the Comprehensive Mansar Rejuvenation/Development Plan will cater to the influx of tourists, propelling the tourism sector. In North India, pilgrimage tourism is a major attraction and Jammu is one of the major pilgrimage tourist attractions in entire India.


The plan includes development of tourist infrastructure in the form of facilitation/view points/ floating jetties etc., development of roads/existing pathways around the lake, ensuring access to different hamlets around the lake periphery. It also includes restoration of heritage buildings, strengthening existing infrastructural facilities, besides encouraging eco tourism and boosting the economy. The department also plans to develop water sports activities, musical water fountains and water cascade works.
