Jammu & Kashmir has the potential to attract domestic and international tourists by holding national and international sports tourism events such as golf playoffs, snow skiing, rafting, motor racing androck climbing.

Travelers to the Union Territory combine their passion for traveling and sports and plan their holidays circling popular sports events, thereby improving sports tourism in the region.

The Sports Policy of J&K encourages advancement of the UTs natural beautiful resources like lakes, rivers, canals, springs and mountains for propelling sports tourism. The policy encompasses special focus on golf, adventure and water sports, winter sports and other activities along withcreating hubs and sports tourist centers which are expected to generate additional job openings.

The policy document says that the ‘Public Private Partnership’ (PPP) accompanied by foreign mission provision for information and technology transfer will assist in takingadventure and sports tourism at a much advanced level.

As a result, sports tourism and dedicated snow adventure sports training courses presented at certificate or diploma level will turn out to be the new approach for making these sports tourism models self-sustaining. The Department of Youth Services and Sports buoy up PPP mode for promoting winter sports and adventure tourism.

The current skiing amenities for training along with leisure games at Gulmarg are being improved, which would becomparable to international standards. Besides, skiing infrastructure expansion is a focus at Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
