Japan remains a top destination for South Koreans in 2025, driven by its proximity, cultural appeal, and strong travel connections. Meanwhile, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia have gained significant traction, offering rich cultural experiences, beautiful landscapes, and growing popularity among South Korean travelers.

Overseas travel from South Korea is experiencing a remarkable rebound, with an impressive 3.2% year-on-year increase in both the number of travelers and international flight operations. Between January and October 2025, 24.3 million South Koreans traveled abroad, and a total of 349,919 international flights took off, as reported by the Korea Tourism Organization and Incheon International Airport Corporation. This upward trend mirrors the growing confidence in global travel, with South Korea emerging as a key source market for the tourism industry.

Japan Remains a Top Destination for South Korean Travelers

As in previous years, Japan continues to dominate South Korean travel preferences, with three cities featuring prominently in the top 10 destinations list. According to Agoda’s accommodation search data, Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Osaka are the top three most favored destinations. The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reports that 7.66 million South Koreans visited Japan between January and October 2025, marking a 6.4% increase from the previous year. Japan’s proximity, rich cultural heritage, and appealing travel experiences continue to make it a favorite getaway for South Koreans.

Rise of Vietnam and Other Short-Haul Destinations

The growing popularity of short-haul destinations is evident in the top 10 list, with Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand all seeing rising demand. Nha Trang and Da Nang in Vietnam are emerging as favorite destinations, while Bali continues to attract South Koreans with its idyllic beaches and cultural charm. Bangkok, a long-time favorite, also holds a strong position on the list, with its bustling markets, ancient temples, and vibrant nightlife drawing travelers from South Korea.

Phu Quoc’s unique appeal, including its visa-free entry policy for all international travelers for up to 30 days, combined with stunning natural landmarks like Sao Beach, Kem Beach, and eco-tourism sites such as Phu Quoc National Park, has made it a must-visit destination for South Koreans in 2025. The island’s blend of pristine beaches and sustainable tourism practices makes it a prime spot for those seeking both relaxation and eco-conscious travel.
