From today, Japan restarted visa procedures for taking in foreign tourists. It is the first step toward growing inbound tourism for changing its economy with waning of the worries regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Japan government is at the start limiting entitled tourist arrivals to conducted tours from 98 countries and regions, which have the lowest risk of infections, including the United States, China, South Korea,Thailand,Britain and Indonesia.

The Japanese authorities are hoping for full-scale influx of tourists to commence around late June at the earliest. It is because it takes quite a few days to complete allimportant procedures like entering information of the applicants in a registration system.

The simplification of entry restrictions comes after a measure taken by Japan on June 1 for doublinglimit on daily arrivals to 20,000, permitting majority of tourists to skip COVID-19 tests and quarantine days. The conducted tour participants will be counted in in the arrival proportion.

Since the month of March, Japan is gradually relaxing the rules, giving importance to foreign residents, students, business owners, and returning Japanese citizens among others. However, it restricted the entry of tourists.

Japan transport and tourism minister Tetsuo Saito said that they will make efforts for restoring tourism demand by harmonizing anti-virus measures, along withsocial and economic activities. He added that the first crowd of tourists is expected to reach next week at the earliest.
