Jharkhand inaugurated its first fossil park

To preserve the Jurassic era along with its remains, in Rajmahal Hills, Jharkhand has recently opened its first fossil park.

The Rajmahal hill is 193 kms away from Sahibganj in Jharkhand to Rampurhat in West Bengal. The entire area is built as an eco-tourism complex with a target to build the park sustainable, out-and-out. The authorities along with this have taken a decision to make only the battery-operated auto-rickshaws a mandatory in this region. The state of Jharkhand by keeping away from private vehicles is not just safeguarding the environment but is generating revenue for the locals as well.


The remains of these fossils are anticipated to be around 145-200 million years old. Along with a museum, this new 95-acre fossil park is opened for the public. It will also have an auditorium, a mini-laboratory and a study area for students as well as researchers. Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has inaugurated the fossil park only recently.


Around Rs 10.75 crore was utilized behind constructing the Mandro Park. The Geological Survey of India has classified the fossil park as a geo-heritage site of late. The primary target behind the construction of the park is to lift up the awareness in terms of the conservation of historical relics and eco-tourism promotion.


The auditorium will have an audio-visual display with the help of technology and will show the evolution of fossils, plants, the solar system and many more.
