J&K admin are prepared to arrange winter games in the coming months to attract tourists

In November, the tourist inflow in Jammu and Kashmir has increased manifold, as mentioned by a senior official on Tuesday at the time of declaring the measures in confidence restoring of those visiting the Union Territory.


Sarmad Hafiz, Jammu and Kashmir tourism secretary have explained that several activities will be arranged like the national winter games at Gulmarg in February 2021 under the ‘Khelo India’ campaign along with the Jammu cultural festival and Dogri food festival in the upcoming days.


‘Confidence is returning among the tourists whose numbers are steadily increasing both in Kashmir and at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu… we are expecting a good turnout of tourists in winters,’ Hafiz informed the reporters here.


He mentioned that by air, tourist numbers arriving in Kashmir was much less than 100 for the past many months due to the pandemic.


‘Today, the arrivals have increased by more than 15 times than what it was a month ago. We are looking forward to having a lot of activities like the national winter games under Khelo India at Gulmarg in February,’ he said.


Hafiz is the secretary of culture, youth services and sports as well. He said that a Patnitop festival is also waiting besides the Jammu cultural festival and ethnic Dogri food festival in a week or 10 days time.


“We are trying to link tourism with culture so that the people coming here can have a good local experience during their stay,” he said.


Hafiz asserted that the measures taken by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to revitalize tourism have not been enough.
