As all lodges and hotels in J&K along with guest houses are fully booked for coming two months, the government is now thinking about revitalizing home stays in the middle of this boom in tourism to keep shortage of accomodation at bay. Around 7, 00, 000, tourists visited Kashmir in the past four months of 2022. This huge flow of tourists has broken the record of the past ten years. On March 2022, roughly 1.80 lakh visitors were recorded.

This happened for the first time in the last one decade. While sharing thoughts to news agency—Kashmir News Observer, Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Tourism J&K, explained that the tourist influx has now become constant in all hotels, guest houses and lodges in J&K with complete pre-booking for at least two months in advance.

Hafeez said that they are happy to see that the locals who at one point of time had closed their hotels are now reviving them once again. In thought of loss, many hotel owners had closed their business but now they are again reopening them. At present, they are having huge bookings. He also added that the government of J&K is all set to renew the existing home stays. For this, new guidelines are being thought of and will be issued soon.

He also said that in the early 70’s and 80’s, home stays had been a key attraction for many tourists. We are trying to revitalize this style of accommodation in view of increasing tourist footfall.
