J&K Tourism bags prize for promoting offbeat destinations

J&K Tourism has won a prize for promoting offbeat destinations at the nationwide level at the Outlook Traveler Awards-2022.

The award was presented by the Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, G Kisan Reddy to Secretary, Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez at a glitzy event in New Delhi.

The award was presented to the Tourism Department for upholding Gurez in the segment of unconventional tourism destinations. J&K Tourism also received an award for adventure tourism at Gulmarg.

The Union Tourism Minister said that it is indeed encouraging to see that tourism in J&K has witnessed a reversal in the last two years and tourist arrivals this year have set a record. He said that as per the new film policy, shooting films in J&K has been invigorated and is being incentivized.

Mr. Reddy lauded the arrangers for organizing the award ceremony, and said that this would surely inspire the best practices in tourism. He also praised the states and UTs which received the awards, since it would help in inspiring and upholding tourism in India.

The Union Minister said that an atmosphere of tourism undertakings is predominant in India and the Union Government is taking steps for reinforcing the sector. He said that the Government is planning to bring up National Tourism Policy in the next budget hearing.

Sarmad Hafeez spoke in detail about the procedures undertaken by the J&K administration for widening the scope of tourist destinations and attractions across J&K.
