J&K tourism starts special drive for vaccinating tourism workers

The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department has started a special drive to vaccinate all tourism stakeholders, tourism players including traders, hoteliers, pony walas and laborers. The department has urged the authorities to conduct a special vaccination drive at Sonamarg. The tourism stakeholders said that the government’s main focus is on twin tourism places of Pahalgam and Gulmarg. However, Sonamarg has always remained less important for them.

The stakeholders said that if the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department and administration starts a special drive to vaccinate all tourism stakeholders, Sonamarg should be on priority too considering the tourism activities that would start start soon.

President Hoteliers Association Sonamarg Shehzad Rasool said that the government had declared people associated with tourism as frontline workers and the drive was aimed towards safeguarding people with maximum interaction with the public.

He said that the administration needs to carry out a special vaccination drive for those related with the tourism sector in J&K so that tourism activities can resume. He also urged the administration to screen travelers arriving from Ladakh to Kashmir via Srinagar-Leh highway at Sonamarg.
