For the first time ever, Jammu and Kashmir had a record 1.88 crore tourists visit the Union Territory in 2022 to experience the beauty of its renowned tourist attractions. This rise in tourists to the UT has created numerous job opportunities in the area, showing its growth through the implementation of constructive strategies, transformative projects, and essential reforms to benefit the people, culture, and society of J&K.

The Government of India is doing its part to ensure that the region has adequate infrastructural facilities and entice more visitors, which has led to a fortunate surge in tourism activities with improved law and order, a reliable security system, and sustained peace in addition to the infrastructure and connectivity developments.

The J&K administration is also concentrating on unlocking the potential of pilgrimage tourism by building several spiritual tourist circuits across the Union Territory. Taking into consideration the steadily growing numbers of devotees coming to visit Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, facilities and infrastructure is being strengthened.

Based on the official reports, the Mantalai Wellness Center was finished at an expense of Rs. 80 crore and the layout of Katra Multi Modal Station has been decided. Additionally, the work on Tawi Riverfront is being carried out energetically and Mansar and Surinsar have been featured on India’s tourism map. The Government is striving hard to make Sanasar Tulip Garden available to citizens and visitors this year.

Additionally, work on the conservation and renovation of 18 historic and cultural heritage sites located in Jammu, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur will soon begin. By April this year, the Jambu Zoo will be open to the public. A Home-stay Scheme has been implemented to generate jobs and bring about economic growth to rural locations.

In 2021, Jammu and Kashmir put out a new Film Policy, making it an attractive shooting destination for the film industry, granting permission for more than 150 films and web series in less than two years. The destination is being promoted internationally as a tourist destination, showing a rise in leisure, adventure, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. This led to the highest-ever number of tourists and air traffic in recent years.

Furthermore, corporate delegations have been visiting the Valley over the past couple of months and more are planned for the future, signifying Kashmir as a corporate tourist destination.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has all of the necessary capabilities and amenities to successfully host MICE tourism and the department is taking a comprehensive approach to draw travelers in all categories by engaging in a variety of initiatives such as roadshows, promotions, and events. Additionally, the administration is regularly introducing new adventure activities and destinations to keep the visitors engaged and interested.
