Jammu and Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association or JKHARA has recently shown their utter satisfaction over the good footfall in tourists to the Valley in the last few months.

As per the statement issued to kashmir news service (KNS), Showkat M Chowdhary, the Chairman JKHARA, explained that the Directorate of Tourism Kashmir’s tireless efforts under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Sarmad Hafeez, its Secretary Tourism and Dr. GN Itoo, Director Tourism Kashmir, the flow of tourists to the valley has experienced an upward curve in spite of the current crisis which has helped in this difficult time to pass over some of the losses incurred by the industry in two years.

Chowdhary mentioned that as per the recent statement by Hon’be LG Manoj Sinha, the valley in the last three months has welcomed the highest number of tourists than any other state in India. For this, the credit goes entirely to the tourism department.

He said that since January 2021, more than one lakh tourists have arrived to Kashmir. 2021 has rejuvenated all our expectation of the people associated with tourism and the recent Tourism Ministry Conference in Srinagar aiming on showcasing Kashmir tourism will also go a long way in placing this destination as a top hotspot.

“Tourism Department JK has been successful in hosting a mega event event by Union Tourism Ministry where in Union Secretary Tourism Mr. Arvind Singh, Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism GoI, Ms. Rupinder Brar, high profile dignitaries including HE the ambassadors to India from Kenya, Vietnam, Georgia, also participated which was highlighted vigorously in national media. The conference has sent a positive message about Kashmir’s tourism. The credit goes to the Directorate of tourism for such a big event,” he said.

In view of the recent rise in the second wave of Covid19, the tourist bookings may experience some cancellations for which the department has also set up a strong measure of testing every traveler entering Kashmir.

“The department of tourism has also started vaccination drive for people associated with tourism industry including hoteliers, their staff, drivers, houseboat owners and shikara walas which will further encourage travellers to visit Kashmir,” he said.
