Jordan sees a rapid rise in tourism

The Jordan tourism sector budget experienced a significant rise of 63.2% in the first third of 2023, reaching a total of 564 million dollars. This surge in funding reflects the growing emphasis on the importance of the tourism industry in driving economic growth.

Moreover, according to data released by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ), the month of April 2023 witnessed a substantial increase of 73.5% in tourism income compared to the same month in 2022, reaching 385.1 million dinar (543.2 million dollars). This boost in income can be attributed to the rise in the number of tourists, which reached 1,957.8, leading to an impressive growth rate of 87.2% during the first third of the year.

The data also revealed that overnight tourists accounted for 1,597.5, showcasing a growth rate of 78.7%, while one-day tourists reached 360.3 thousand, demonstrating a remarkable growth rate of 137.1%.

Simultaneously, tourist spending abroad during April 2023 increased by 49.6% compared to the same month in 2022, amounting to 100.7 million dinar (142.0 million dollars). Additionally, tourism spending abroad in the first third of 2023 recorded a remarkable increase of 63.2%, reaching a value of 400.1 million dinar (564.3 million dollars), with Jordanian residents accounting for 83.2% of the total tourism expenditure.

These positive indicators reflect the successful efforts made to attract more tourists to Jordan and highlight the country’s appeal as a desirable destination. The substantial growth in tourism income and spending signifies the positive impact of the tourism sector on Jordan’s economy, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the global tourism market.
