Kailasagiri In Vishakhapatnam Set To Unveil India’s Longest Glass Skywalk Bridge Opens to Tourists: Everything You Need To Know

Published on December 2, 2025

Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, a coastal municipality which is also referred to as the City of Destiny, unveiled a new and extraordinary attraction at its picturesque Kailasagiri hilltop park on December 1, 2025, the longest cantilever glass skywalk bridge in India. The structure not only guarantees an exciting experience but also gives visitors the opportunity to see the city from above, thus making a mark in the city’s tourism saga.

What is the new glass bridge

The newly opened skywalk is a 55-metre-long glass bridge, cantilevered out over the greenery and hills of Kailasagiri. It was built at a cost of about 7 crore rupees, under a public-private partnership between Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and a private firm

Engineered with three layers of 40 mm thick tempered laminated glass, imported from Germany, and reinforced by roughly 40 tonnes of steel, the walkway combines strength with transparency.

Set at a dramatic elevation, approximately 862 feet above the ground and about 1,000 feet above sea level, the bridge allows visitors unobstructed 360-degree views over the vast Bay of Bengal on one side, and the sweeping cityscape of Visakhapatnam along with the lush Eastern Ghats on the other.

Although technically capable of accommodating more than 100 people at a time (with load-bearing capacity rated at 500 kg per square metre), entry is currently restricted to 40 visitors per batch, likely to ensure safety as well as a more immersive experience.

Construction was completed within several months, and the bridge was formally inaugurated by local dignitaries including MP M. Sribharat and Mayor P. Srinivasa Rao.

Why it matters for tourism and travellers

For the travel-hungry, this is more than just a structure, it represents the growing ambition of Visakhapatnam to carve out a niche in adventure and coastal tourism. Kailasagiri, which already enjoys popularity for its gardens, iconic statues, ropeway rides, and breathtaking viewpoints, now gains an attraction that combines thrill, beauty and design sophistication.

For first-time visitors and seasoned travellers alike, the glass bridge offers a rare vantage point, walking in mid-air and soaking in sweeping sea views on one side and verdant hills on the other. The sense of floating high above the landscape, with nothing but a crystal-clear floor beneath your feet, makes for not only a visual treat but also an emotionally resonant experience.

Officials hope the structure will act as a magnet for domestic and international tourists, boosting the city’s appeal as a coastal-adventure destination and energising the local tourism ecosystem, from restaurants and local vendors to hospitality and guided tours.

Reaching Kailasagiri is relatively convenient: it is located approximately 10 km from the city railway station, and about 6 km from the main city bus hub (RTC complex), from where one can take a bus, cab or auto to reach the hill.

Visitors planning for a relaxed day should ideally combine the skywalk experience with a stroll through the gardens, rope-way ride (existing at Kailasagiri), or sunset views over the Bay of Bengal, which, after the opening of the glass bridge, promises to be an even more magical spectacle.

What the city hopes and what visitors can expect

City officials described the glass bridge as a landmark, part of a broader vision to elevate Visakhapatnam’s stature as a premier tourism hub. They expressed confidence that the striking experience of walking on transparent glass high above the hills and sea will captivate both domestic and international travellers.

For many travellers, the new skywalk may well become the must-do when visiting Visakhapatnam, offering a mix of adventure, scenic beauty, and a sense of wonder that few other attractions in the region provide.

Whether you’re a backpacker chasing panoramic views, a couple seeking a romantic sunset with a twist, or a family looking for something memorable, the Kailasagiri glass bridge now offers a unique vantage point, quite literally raising the bar for what travel to Vizag can feel like.

Looking ahead

With this ambitious addition, Kailasagiri’s appeal is likely to surge, but success will depend on careful management: safe visitor flow, maintenance of the glass structure, crowd control, and an overall visitor-friendly environment. If these are handled well, the glass skywalk could become a defining feature in Visakhapatnam’s tourism narrative.

For travellers visiting Andhra Pradesh’s eastern coast, a stopover in Visakhapatnam now comes with a compelling reason: to stand high above hills and sea, walk on air, and witness the city where land meets horizon like nowhere else.
