On Sunday, Kenya received more than 149 Bulgarian travellers. The tourists boarded a charter flight that landed at 9am at the Moi International airport Mombasa.

In the recovery of Kenya’s tourism industry, charter flights from the European markets have continued to play an important role which has been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kenya received the first-ever Romanian charter in March of 2021, carrying almost 200 visitors. In April 2021, the country received yet another charter flight from Ukraine, Kyiv. It had on board 189 visitors.

So far, the two charters have made 49 rotations to the destination and boosted the sector, particularly the Coast.
While receiving the charter flight on Sunday, Kenya Tourism Board Director of Marketing, Fred Okeyo, explained that charter flights had become a great way for the destination to connect with the international markets, especially during the period when travel was limited.

“The charter flights we have been receiving signal the growing confidence in Kenya’s preparedness against Covid-19. It also indicates that travellers want to come to Magical Kenya to experience our diversity in offering and hospitality,” Okeyo said.

“I thank the marketers and travel agents who have been working tirelessly to bring visitors to Kenya. The government will continue to offer support as we work together towards the full recovery and growth of the sector.”
