Today, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, inaugurated the week-long Onam festivity, by setting the stage for presenting before a huge number of spectators a variety of folk, classical, ethnic and popular art forms in numerous venues in Cochin, the state capital, along with different districts across the state in the coming seven days.
Opening this state-wide celebration arranged by the Kerala Tourism Department at a majestic function at Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds in Kerala, the CM defined Onam as a lasting symbol of trust, buoyancy and renaissance which this time, has an added implication as humanity is reviving from the disturbances caused by the pandemic.
Shri Vijayan added that this time, Onam comes with an assurance and hope. Humanity, in the last two years, had gone through a weird situation that stopped all festivals and get-togethers. As the pandemic is moving back slowly, the spirit of the festivity and the pleasure that get-togethers bring are back. However, Covid has not totally eradicated, and he added that we all have to continue to remain cautious against its return and spread.
Shri P A Mohamed Riyas, Tourism Minister, who presided over the function, stated that Onam spreads the message of equality, which has a great relevance in this era.
Shri V Sivankutty, Minister for General Education and Labour, in his welcome speech, said that post Covid, people have hugged the real spirit of Onam fast with overwhelming enthusiasm.
