With the subsiding of the third wave of the pandemic, Kerala is expecting to attract large numbers of tourists by reinventing itself as a chosen destination for travelers.
A tourism official said that the department’s primary focus is on domestic tourism, where Gujarat is a key market, since tourists from the state are important contributors for Kerala tourism.
In the last two pandemic years, hospitality and tourism were harshly affected, which gave rise to lockdowns.
However, now, tourism activities are back in full swing in the state beaches, hill stations, backwaters and houseboats, said Kerala Tourism Director V R Krishna Teja.
Shifting from the destination-specific approach, Kerala is reinventing itself as an ideal location for extended holidays with multiple experiences like homestays, Drive Holidays, ‘Change of Air’ based wellness vacations and adventure tourism activities.
Kerala is preparing to host a series of absorbing events like the Kerala Travel Mart in May, Champions’ Boat League (CBL) in August-November and Kochi Muziris Biennale in December-March along with cultural and literary fests and adventure tourism activities for luring tourists.
