Kerala government & KTM introduces free mass vaccination drive

On Thursday in Ernakulam, Kerala Travel Mart and the state government jointly introduced a free mass vaccination drive to revive the holiday industry that has become dry for more than a year due to COVID-19.


At Maradu, Kochi Mayor, M Anil Kumar and Ernakulam District Collector, Jafer Malik, inaugurated the three-day programme, marking the start of inoculating 2,500 tourism people, a KTM release said here.


Organizers said that this drive was held at BTH Sarovaram in Cochin Bypass. It aims to counter the predictable third wave of COVID.


This campaign is part of a state-wide drive that is keen on vaccinating everyone in tourism so as to make the hotspot completely vaccinated zones.


Camps are being arranged by the KTM Society till July end in all the districts to inoculate tour operators, front-line workers and the ones who are working in tourism including, hotels, restaurants, tourist taxi drivers, tour guides, houseboats, homestays and serviced villas.


This campaign is important for those who are yet to get their first doze along with the ones who are waiting for the second shot, the release said.


KTM Society president Baby Mathew Somatheeram, Secretary Jose Pradeep, vice president S Swaminathan, former president Abraham George and tourism deputy director Abhilash T G participated.
