Kerala tourismDespite tensions between India and the two nations of Pakistan and China, travellers from China and Pakistan have not ceased their visits to the former country, particularly Kerala.

In fact, last two years have been witnessing a surge in the tourist arrivals.

People involved with tourism sector credit the increasing awareness of Kerala tourism through the Internet. In fact, there has been a rise in the number of travellers from these nations in the last two years.

The tourism department data states that as many as 6,203 Chinese tourists has arrived in Kerala in 2016 marking a growth of about 26% as compared to 2015.

The number of visitors from the Middle Kingdom was 4,748 in the year 2014.

E.M. Najeeb who is the leading travel firm ATE Group’s Chairman had cited digital marketing and the campaign was carried out in China by the tourism agencies of Kerala as the main reasons for the inflow of tourists from the East Asian country. Generally, Chinese tourists prefer destinations in North India.

Currently due to strong marketing by South Indian agencies in China, the arrival of tourists from that nations is gradually growing.

Jose Pradeep who is the Secretary of Kerala Travel Mart feels that China is a great potential market for the state tourism industry of India. Though the Chinese travellers are more fond of the golden triangle in Sri Lanka and North India, agencies from Kerala are eagerly participating in travel marts and are carrying out road shows in the Chinese cities.

Jose said that one of the challenges they have been facing is the fact that there has been a lack of tourists who can converse in the Chinese language.

Ernakulam Tourism Joint Director P G Sivan attests that there are several queries arriving from China. The medical tourism sector of China is quite popular all across the globe as well. The rising number of Internet users is yet another reason for the ever increasing tourist inflow.

He mentioned that the official data reveals that as many as 128 tourists had visited Kerala in the year 2016.

The number of Pakistani tourists was less than 100 in the year 2010.

Also, visitors from war-torn nations like Syria (935), Iraq (629) and Afghanistan (575) are portraying an upwards trend.
