The Minister for Tourism, Kerala, P. A. Mohamed Riyas, has explained that the tourism projects and road development in the capital district of Kochi will be completed at the right time. While talking in a press meet on Tuesday at the city Corporation, the Minister said that the waterlogging in Kochi is still a crucial problem. To find a lasting solution to this issue, the support of Railways is tremendously important. All government departments are required to work in tandem to deal with this waterlogging problem.

On 11 city roads, almost 80% of the work had been completed, and the remaining will get over in a week, Mr. Riyas said. These included the Attakulangara-Killipalam road, Edapazhnaji-Jagathy road, and SS Kovil Road-Manjalikulam road.

Cleaning of drains like the Peroorkada-Mannamoola drain and DPI-Jagathy drain was in progress. Wherever it was necessary, trees were being cut with the permission of the Forest Department.

Supervision of the Public Works Department works had been given to the officials concerned like the Chief Engineer, and reports submitted to the Minister’s office. He said that severe measures would be taken against officials who are found guilty of lapses in implementation.

In the district too, tourism projects would be completed on time. In Kochi, there were 49 tourism projects of which 20 were continuing. An important project that would change the face of the city was the Travancore Heritage Tourism project, tendering for which was under way.
