Kerala is all prepared to become a fully women-friendly tourism destination, in a country-first initiative, by executing a complete scheme that would give confidence to women to take part in all tourism activities and draw greater number of women tourists to the state, on Wednesday, Tourism Minister, PA Mohamed Riyas said this.
While introducing the state-level ‘Women-Friendly Tourism’ project, a comprehensive campaign of the State Responsible Tourism Mission (RT Mission), Riyas said that Kerala by now enjoys the status as the safest destination for women travelers.
Keeping in mind the importance of the project, Shri Riyas said that the state is in need of a paradigm shift at a time when the world going through a massive increase in women solo travelers as well as in groups.
The Minister also said that this campaign is conceived not just as a stand-alone package, but as an all-inclusive project to make sure the attendance of ordinary women in different activities of tourism and attract more women travellers to the state.
He said that through this project, RT Mission will make sure safe and hygienic places for women tourists. Women will control and operate the all-women tour packages by including food, accommodation, transportation and community guides.
Also, as part of the project, the minister inaugurated a one-day workshop. Deputy Representative, UN Women India, Kanta Singh, said that creating a safe, dependable and hygienic infrastructure that addresses women’s needs is vital while implementing the project.
