Kerala tourism reveals its offerings at ITB Berlin 2019

At ITB Berlin 2019, Apratim Ghoshal, Editor, Travel And Tour World had an exclusive conversation with P. Bala Kiran, Director, Kerala Tourism.

 

 

 

In terms of inbound tourism, Europe has traditionally been number one market for Kerala tourism. He says: “UK, France, Germany give us around 400,000 tourist every year, and Europe as a whole drives more than 60 per cent of the traffic coming to Kerala. That’s why we come here every year. ITB is our number one trade fair.”

 

 

U.K. is the number one market for Kerala tourism. U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Australia, U.S., Malaysia, Saudi, Oman form their top 10 markets.

 

 

 

He adds, “Kerala has been called the God’s own country for lot of years, the reason been that we have been positioning ourselves as close to nature – the hills, tea gardens, beaches, backwaters, the house boats, waterfalls have been playing a major role in attracting tourists to Kerala.”

 

 

 

We are evolving ourselves slightly to niche destination where we started selling humanscapes more than landscapes.” They are going to sell, position, brand their village life experiences, the human stories, to the tourist at large especially with their new campaign ‘Human by Nature’ coming along.

 

 

They have four international airports Kannur, Calicut, Kochi, Trivandrum that have 40 daily flights to Middle East.  They are well connected to rest of the world.

 

 

 

Kerala has been named as best Honeymoon Destination 3 years in a row. Events hosted by Kerala tourism are Onam festivities, boat races, IPL based snake boat race, Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
