Khatkar Kalan to be improved for heritage tourism

Punjab Cabinet Minister Anmol Gagan Mann hoisted the national flag in Nawanshahr on Independence Day. She scrutinized the parade along with Deputy Commissioner NPS Randhawa and SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena.

During her address, the minister recollected the unmatched contribution and sacrifices of Punjabis during the freedom struggle of India.

The minister said that Bhagat Singh’s familial village Khatkar Kalan has inspired many to sacrifice their lives for the country if there was any need.

The Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister visited Khatkar Kalan to pay tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his father Kishan Singh. She said that the cenotaphs associated with the martyr and his family at Khatkar Kalan would be given a facelift and would be developed for heritage tourism.

The minister said that Khatkar Kalan as a tourism attraction will not only grab attention nationally and worldwide, but will also inspire the future generations. More than 2,000 students of 28 schools took part in the march past, cultural programmes and other activities to honor the 75th anniversary of the Independence. There were also tableaus on display by various departments for public awareness.
