Khatkar Kalan will now get promoted as a tourist destination

In an effort to market Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, globally, under farm tourism scheme, the district administration would earmark 10 farmhouses where people can stay and pay their respect to the martyrs and having sight of rural Punjab at the same time.

The DC while chairing a meeting with the officials and tourism department explained that the administration would recommend Khatkar Kalan village for the Best Village Award category by UNWTO.

He also mentioned that within next week, under farm tourism village of the state government, 10 farmhouses adjoining or amidst agricultural land would be identified. There visitors would be provided with comfortable accommodation, followed by cooked food, clean environment at pocket-friendly price. He said that visitors can explore the fields, village tubewells and have detailed idea about village’s historical significance by taking them to ancestral house of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh, museum and memorial complex.

Randhawa requested the officials to identify the farmhouses and register them under the scheme. He also mentioned that the farmhouses will get adequate publicity among the masses which would boost tourism.

The DC further requested the Rural Development and Panchayat Department and the Banga MC to start cleaning the ponds, adjoin parks and other parts of Khatkar Kalan with a plantation drive. Also, he urged them to encourage awareness drive among people against the plastic and make the village free from it.
