Koala population is on the decline in Australia due to the bushfire crisis.

Experts are now claiming that Koalas are now on the verge of extinction while the marsupials have been under threat since a long time.

As per recent reports, Koalas are supposed to be extinct by 2050 in New South Wales if land clearing rates continue.

But the question is that will they even make it that long when the climate is changing so rapidly and there might be an early start to an extreme bushfire season.

The bushfires wreaked havoc across the country, hampering hundreds of thousands of hectares and leaving behind a good number of dead and injured wildlife.

According to the social activist Nicole Blums, who work with the wildlife hospitals and carers in NSW and Queensland, around 1,000 koalas have been killed in the bushfires.

She claimed that the breeding ground in Port Macquarie has been totally destroyed in the bushfires and said that the level of damage was different in all the areas but those areas, which fell into the fast-moving fires, had been totally destroyed.

The Wildlife Hospital Network has said that it has been handed over 50 koalas from the recent fires in Queensland.

The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has said that 20 koalas were admitted there and Australia Zoo has said that one Koala has been handed over to it.

Many surviving Koalas were found at Toowoomba, Jimna and Mt Barney, and more Koalas are expected in the coming days.

Direct heat and smoke inhalation have caused most of the injuries to the Koalas. Over 1 million hectares of land has been burned in the bushfires across the border in New South Wales. A good number of Koalas have been recovered from there also.
