Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre turns into temporary COVID-19 hospital

Published on : Monday, April 19, 2021

The Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre at Phnom Penh, Cambodia have turned into a temporary COVID-19 hospital with nearly 1800 beds to accommodate patients infected with the deadly coronavirus. Prime Minister Hun Sen’s eldest son Hun Manet, who is also Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, informed that his working group has prepared the beds in approximate 80 hours.

Manet took to social media to inform that the working group worked tirelessly day and night to get Koh Pich venues ready to accommodate patients in 80 hours. He mentioned that the government needed to prepare such facilities to the best of its ability amid a sudden, huge surge in transmission cases, especially in Phnom Penh, before beginning home treatment for patients with mild symptoms at a larger scale.

He also thanked the management of the OCIC [Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation] for letting the government borrow the venues for use as a COVID-19 treatment facility at no cost. Manet also urged the public to constantly practise preventive measures amid the ongoing community outbreak.
