Once again, travelers are super excited to have restarted their journeys, giving that much impetus to the tourism sector after Unlock 5.0 was introduced and borders were opened. Even though several hospitality establishments have been compelled to shut down shops, hit by financial and labor constraints, the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation is currently on a growth and development spree.
In the last few months, across Karnataka, KSTDC has opened more rooms at budget hotels in places like Almatti (21 rooms), Vijayapura (21), Barachukki (11), BR Hills (16), and Tungabhadra Dam (20). Also, in New Delhi, it has opened 34 rooms at Karnataka Bhavan-3. In all, KSTDC has added 122 rooms across India.
Kumar Pushkar, KSTDC Managing Director has informed TNIE that the proposal to develop new spaces was part of the tourism policy and also on the agenda of the annual calendar. He has emphasized that room rents are dynamic, and prices go up and down as per market demand.
Also, the corporation was keen on obtaining unused guesthouses and inspection bungalows of the government. An official of the tourism department has explained that the idea was to make the message clear to the people that now they can travel without fear, and government-run properties are available at their disposal.
“Business-wise, it is the best time to expand. Where the market is low, there is less money in circulation and demand for financial movement is only rising. It is a wise business decision,” the official said.
Tour operators have stated that this is an opportunity for tourist inflow. Naresh K, a tour operator, have explained that it is a positive sign, when many had thought that tourism sector was probably on the edge of falling down.
