The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre demonstrates its worth as an infrastructure asset to the city and community of Kuala Lumpur, commencing as a mega vaccination centre from 7 June 2021 in line with the government’s National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and has the capacity of vaccinating a maximum of 8000 vaccinees daily.
“We fully embrace this opportunity to be involved in the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and to be able to serve the city and the people of Kuala Lumpur. Having been given a chance to put on a rather different hat than usual, we are able to demonstrate the real value and strength purpose-built convention centres can contribute to collectively achieving national objectives. As the people’s centre, it gives us great national pride to be able to support PICK in every way possible,” said Alan Pryor, General Manager of the Centre.
Purpose-built venues are designed to accommodate large scale events in a highly regulated and controlled manner, supported by a knowledgeable and experienced team. Through government and private sector collaboration, the Centre, is able to use its capabilities and expertise to keep the team actively employed and to sustain a level of business continuity that is vital in these challenging times.
One of the perks of purpose-built venues is that they are designed to seamlessly facilitate large crowd flow and to regulate movement from one point to another, keeping in consideration those with limited physical abilities while accommodating a variety of needs simultaneously. Most of the senior and golden citizens scheduled for vaccination at the Centre are experiencing the venue for the first time in their life, and are comforted by the ease of navigation and movement within the Centre.
“We are fortunate that the strategic location of the Centre overlooking the beautiful KLCC Park provides a calm and tranquil environment, and with ample parking and convenient drop-off and pick-up points that are accommodating to diverse needs and requirements,” concluded Pryor.
The Centre is once again thronged by thousands daily since it began its operation as a vaccination centre, a sight that has been dearly missed due to the pandemic outbreak. Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with its role as a mega vaccination centre (PPV) started its operation on 7 June 2021, with an initial capacity of 4000 vaccinees. The capacity will increase gradually, in time as the Government ramps up daily vaccination rate to further expedite herd immunity in Malaysia.
The Centre, a venue that is primarily known in the international marketplace for its long track-record of high-profile international events and its Malaysian hospitality, is now hustling and bustling again with medical professionals, civil forces, volunteers, the public and its staff after travel and movement restrictions kept its hallways empty for almost a year.
The National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) has been further expedited by the government through a number of measures in the aim to vaccinate up to 80% of Malaysia’s population by the end of the third quarter this year, giving a glimmer of hope to the local business events community that soon the tides of COVID-19 will settle.
