Kuching is all set to make a bigger mark on the business events map come 2018 with the award-winning Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), Sarawak’s first and only purpose-built convention centre, having been officially appointed as the host venue for three prominent international conferences next year.
The 4th International Energy Week (IEW’18), 17th Continuing Professional Development Series:
Diabetes Asia 2018 Conference and 18th Asian-Australasian Animal Production Congress 2018 will roll into the Cat City (Kuching being the Malay word for cat) after concerted bid efforts of two to three years by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) and BCCK through joint sales calls to the clients/hosts and joint site inspections of the BCCK.
4th International Energy Week (IEW’18)
The IEW’18 will be hosted by the Sarawak state government from 23 to 25 January 2018 and will comprise both conference and exhibition components bringing the IEW’18 Conference and Technology Symposium, ElectroPowerAsia 2018 Exhibition, PetroleumAsia 2018 Exhibition and Asia Infrastructure 2018 Exhibition to this energy-themed event which anticipates to welcome around 5,000 delegates.
Since its inception in 2009, this flagship state event has gathered thousands of top government officials and industry leaders from the energy and petroleum sectors to explore the business and investment opportunities as well as focus on the continued development of the multi-billion dollar Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). SCORE is the new development corridor in central Sarawak (and one of Malaysia’s five economic corridors) which focuses on the growth of the identified rural areas through foreign direct investments in the priority industries that will have the highest economic impact on Sarawak. These industries are the oil-based, aluminium, steel, tourism, palm oil, timber-based, livestock, aquaculture, marine engineering and glass.
Kuching has gained a foothold as a favourite destination for medical and professional association conferences/congresses in recent years. The BCCK has carved a place for itself as the ideal venue for such meetings and has successfully hosted various medical/dental conferences and association meetings.
