Kushinagar International Airport to be inaugurated by PM Modi

A delegation led by sports minister and scion of contemporary Sri Lanka’s first family, NamalRajapakshe, would be landing at the inaugural ceremony of Kushinagar International Airport by PM NarendraModi.

The PM will dedicate the airport to ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat’, stressing on India’s diplomatic peace initiative to further support ties with Sri Lanka and other Buddhist countries. Besides other relics,Rajapakshe’s delegation, including 12 members of the Holy Relic Entourage, more than 100 monks and four other ministers would present two photographs of murals honoring the Mauryan royal off-springs’ epochal mission to Sri Lanka.

Delegates and Buddhist clergy from other nations would also be joining the PM at the airport inaugural and the ceremony forAbhidhamma Day at Mahaparinirvan temple where Lord Buddha attained salvation.

“The Kushinagar airport will provide a fillip to tourism both in eastern UP and northwest Bihar,” said the Union tourism secretary Arvind Singh. “Pilgrim-tourists from countries, including Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Sri Lanka shall now have the satisfaction of a more holistic Buddhist trail experience with the commissioning of the international airport at Kushinagar that shall easily encompass the sites along Buddha’s ‘Last Walk’ trail from Vaishali, cutting through Kesaria and Lauriya-Nandangarh in Bihar,” Singh said. He added that the Gandhi Circuit in Champaran would be a great attraction.
