Kushinagar will soon be getting its first international airport

A wave of happiness is rapidly passing across Kushinagar in regards to the forthcoming inauguration of the international airport. On October 20th, the inauguration would be done by the honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, as people expect a major uptick in tourism and related earnings.


Kushinagar is the Mahaparinirvan sthali of Lord Buddha. Kushinagar got its international air connectivity and this has made this region easily accessible for Buddhist pilgrims worldwide.


The president of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, will be the first passenger to aboard international flight landing at Kushinagar airport from Sri Lanka. Furthermore, 25 representatives and 100 Buddhist pilgrims will be arriving in the same flight. Also, several VVIPs and diplomats will take part in the inauguration process.


The locals believe that international air connectivity will improve the tourism facility of this region which will generate employment, development and investments in return.


“Kushinagar International Airport has the longest runway of 3.2km length in the state and is 45m wide. The airport has the capacity for four arrivals and four departures of flights per hour. It also has a 3,600 square metre interim passenger building and arrangements are being made to make night flights also possible.”
