Despite the recent surge in anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Florida, tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ individuals are converging on central Florida for Gay Days, a longstanding tradition of theme park rides, parties, and celebrations.

While organizations have issued warnings about safety in the state, Gay Days organisers aim to send a strong message that LGBTQ+ people are resilient and will not be deterred. By encouraging a large turnout, they hope to demonstrate that LGBTQ+ individuals are a vital part of Florida’s tourism industry.

The event, which coincides with Orlando’s Pride celebration in October, features gatherings at theme parks like Walt Disney World, where the first Gay Days took place in 1991. Despite ongoing conflicts with Governor Ron DeSantis over recent legislation and policies targeting the LGBTQ+ community, participants at Gay Days proudly wear red shirts to signify their presence.

While challenges remain, including the expansion of anti-LGBTQ+ laws and recent efforts to restrict transgender rights, the LGBTQ+ community in Florida is determined to assert its visibility and resilience during this important celebration.
