London geared up Easter celebrations as terror attack fails to dampen tourism spirit

londonLondon is all geared up to welcome the Easter tourism bonanza thanks to the record number of globetrotters are making their way to the capital from all across the globe for the bank holiday weekend.


A great upsurge in inbound flight bookings as well as reservations for hotels and tourist attractions as compared to the last year indicate that tourists are not at all deterred by the terror attack of last month in Westminster.


And, they are also rushing t leverage the bargain status of London after the 10 to 15% devaluation of the pound following the Brexit referendum.


The bookings for international flights to London are on the rise by about 61% as compared to Easter 2016, as per the official figures of Europe’s largest online travel company known as eDreams ODIGEO. Dana Dumme, the chief executive of this company said that London continues to be a popular tourist locale for travellers from various portions of the world.


He added that this Easter, they had witnessed a 49% increase in international flight bookings for the UK and 61% for London.


The arrivals from Germany and France are at least double last year and bookings from Spain are up by nearly 23%. Separate figures from travel market researchers ForwardKeys said that the arrivals for two nights or more from the US are estimated to increase by 68% for the month of April.


City Hall hailed the bounce as a sign that London continues to be a world leader in terms of culture and arts and continues to ‘open for business’.


The tourism chiefs of London said that the theatres of London are proving to be a great draw thanks three world-renowned actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Andrew Garfield and Damian Lewis and also Jude Law.


Reigo Eljas, the UK director for a certain travel website said that they do expect to witness a surge in theatre ticket bookings for hit shows including Kinki Boots, Aladdin, Dreamgirls and Wicked over the Easter weekend.


Hotels are also reporting very high levels of occupancy like the Berkeley, Connaught, Maybourne Hotels that run Claridge’s also feel that there has been a swelling in the tourism figures over the Easter period.


Justine Simmons who is the deputy mayor for culture and industries said that London is a world leader for fashion, dance, food, theatre, culture and many other interesting facades of heritage.


This is mainly responsible for drawing hordes of tourists to this region especially in Easter holidays.
