Rupinder Brar, Additional General Director, Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India speaks exclusively with Travel And Tour World at WTM, London. She mentioned, as per the data received by the end of August, 2019, India had about seven and a half million visitors from other countries and for the 2020 campaign the overall thrust will be on immersive experience.
According to research people are not happy with monuments and sites, but want to experience how India lives, they want to go for culinary and adventure trails.
Europe and USA will still be the focused target segment to attract international tourists but there will be an increased attention to South American markets.
In the overall scheme the Far East or Look East policy will remain as a major focus as there are about 130 million Chinese who travel the world around and India gets some 300 thousand. So, they will be working to improve the Chinese market.
With new convention halls coming up the MICE sector in India will see further growth. Adventure tourism is niche sector and Siachen will be promoted in recent times.
She highlights the tourism initiatives in Kashmir, cruise tourism in India and the use of social media platform to get feedback.
