Louisville tourism is rapidly increasing the level after COVID-19 shut had down travel completely in 2020. Events started piling up on the Greater Louisville calendar at midyear 2021, raising expectation for the normalcy to return. Locals as well as visitors are highly enthusiastic about their preferred attractions and participate in various new upcoming events. Officials of the travel sector are cautiously optimistic.
Last year, all events were called off, postponed or arranged minus fans as COVID-19 extinguished tourism and business travel all through the USA and world over. However in 2019, tourism had created a record with worth $3.4 billion business to the Louisville economy, said Stacey Yates, the vice president of marketing communications for Louisville Tourism.
Over 19 million people had spent minimum a part of a day in the city, and hopes were high for 2020. Because of COVID, Louisville Tourism estimated room sales – one measure of tourism volume – were only about 20% (164,000) of the previous year.
As the vaccination process increased in April and May, the 2021 mood started getting brightening up quickly and the population got healthy enough to travel for business as well as leisure purposes.
To quote Doug Bennett, senior vice president of convention development for Louisville Tourism, “Although this feels like a shadow of the booked business in past years, we are certainly grateful for the programming we do have on the books, especially our strong sports segment paving the way for recovery.”
