Aashutosh Rathod, Director of Tourism, Maharashtra and Joint Managing director , Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) , speaks to Travel and Tour World at ITB Berlin on their upcoming wellness hub offering paramedical treatment, new wine technology in Nashik and cruise tourism.
Travel and Tour World : What are your plans for Maharashtra in 2018 ?
Aashutosh Rathod : Maharashtra is the most happening place and the second largest state of India. Maharashtra is having 720 km coastal line, huge mountain range, wild life and UNESCO heritage sites.
It offers tourist destinations to all age groups be it children, youth or old people. We are coming up with a wellness hub in 100 acres of land for old people. It will offer naturopathy, homeopathy, water treatment, stone treatment and different types of paramedical treatment .Everything will be under one roof and this will be first of its kind in India and Asia
In Coastal line we are developing world class resorts and road networks at the same time. We are coming up with 24 x 7 medical assistance and police security in the interest of tourists and safe tourism. So, requesting all national and international tourists to visit Maharashtra.
Travel and Tour World : In terms of inbound tourists from Europe which are the main countries?
Aashutosh Rathod : From Germany there is a tremendous tourist inflow regarding wineries. Nashik is one of the major districts of Maharashtra and is the wine Capital of India.
Stuttgart, city of Germany and Nashik is having a memorandum of understanding regarding technologies in wineries. There is exchange of knowledge and very soon there will be visible outcome of the association between Stuttgart with Nashik.
Travel and Tour World : Tell us specific things about Maharashtra.
Aashutosh Rathod : Maharashtra is having a variety of tourist destination and coastal line, we are coming up with cruise tourism we have the Costa cruise that has made Mumbai. Maharashtra’s tourism is developing in all direction and we call it Maharashtra unlimited in the true sense.
Travel and Tour World : India is becoming an emerging MICE destination, tell us something about the current situation in Maharashtra for MICE Market and its convention centres.
Aashutosh Rathod : For Maharashtra we have corporate cities in Mumbai, Aurangabad Nashik, Nagpur and these metro cities have two international airports with good network of rail and roadways.
MICE is getting a very good shape here and we are competing with Singapore and Malaysia in this regard. Mumbai has the largest convention centres of Asia and at the same time Pune and Aurganabad are coming up with very good convention centres.
Mumbai’s convention is having 5000 capacity and the city is full of luxury hotels with a holistic ecosystem.
Travel and Tour World : How are you expanding tourism business with the help of Bollywood?
Aashutosh Rathod : Bollywood Tourism is a very good segment but we are also coming up with medical, cruise and heli tourism, adventure and water sports , scuba diving and many more.
