MakeMyTrip, the well-known online tour operator has partnered with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. This collaboration is expected to drive sustainable tourism practices.
GSTC is a non-profit organization. In sustainable tourism, it works toward acquiring the best practices. The council represents varied and global membership comprising national and provincial governments, hotels, travel companies, NGOs, tour operators, and communities.
The GSTC was developed together by UN agencies and well-known international conservation NGOs with a mission to expand the standards for sustainable tourism.
The criteria is made use to increase awareness around sustainable practices, which eventually help in shaping the best developed policies for government agencies, businesses and other organisations; setting up of standard measurement and guidelines in terms of evaluation; and as a basis for certifications. They are the consequence of a universal initiation to build up a common language in terms of sustainability in tourism.
The chief operating officer of the firm, Vipul Prakash, said that they all consider that for good, travel can be a force for people, destinations, and environment in general. Their main endeavor is to provide travellers with solutions that make them even more responsible and aware of all the travel choices. He said that they look forward to working in tandem with GSTC to speed up understanding and acceptance toward sustainable practices in tourism in the country.
He said that the industry has tremendous responsibilities and they are demonstrating this responsibility by partnering with GSTC.
