Malaysia and Indonesia

Aiming to foster closer relation for the development of business events industry between Malaysia and Indonesia, the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) official visit to Jakarta received encouraging support from their counterpart.

A gathering of industry key opinion leaders in particular representatives from Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesian Exhibition Companies Association (IECA-Asperapi), Indonesia Convention & Exhibition, Jakarta Convention Centre, Professional Conference Organisers, both public and private sector, and several local media has resulted in a positive conversation. This is in fact the first trip by MyCEB as a national convention bureau to reach out to their counterpart in Indonesia, where the two countries share many similarities, in the business events industry, culture and economic prosperity. It is important to note that through this visit, the latest update on entry formalities to Malaysia and the bureau support through 3R Initiatives to international business events’ organisers will attract congresses, exhibition, corporate meetings and incentive travel groups. Further discussion is in progress to uncover potential prospects for a strategic collaboration between the two countries which will benefit the stakeholders and create a larger economic impact.

“With the opening of our borders on 1st April, business events visitors will benefit immensely with no more requirement for Covid-19 PCR test or Covid-19 insurance. However much more effort is required to restart this industry and collaboration with our neighbouring countries such as Indonesia is very important. Therefore, we need to find the common ground for industry stakeholders to cooperate and move forward. In this regard, MyCEB will spare all efforts to make this collaboration meaningful and a success. Even though Malaysia has vast experience in staging international events, there are so much more that we could learn from Indonesia who will be hosting the prestigious G20 Summit this November.” said Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB.

In respond to Malaysia’s invitation to collaboration, Mr. Hosea Andreas Runkat, Chairman of Indonesian Exhibition Companies Association (IECA-Asperapi) and Director of BalaiSidang Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) stated: “We are honoured to be able to work alongside our counterpart’s industry champions to create more business-to-business opportunities for the region amidst the impacts of the pandemic. This will ultimately attract and reassure the confidence of international world leaders, decision-makers, and potential investors in Malaysia and Indonesia’s ability to conduct world-class and responsible meetings in this era of new norms.”

“Undoubtedly, Indonesia and Malaysia are recovering from the pandemic, and becoming economic powerhouse for the region. Thus, moving forward through industry collaboration, it is important for us at ASPERAPI and we thanked MyCEB for this kind gesture.”

MyCEB is ever ready to lead the collective efforts of developing more networking opportunities that will pave the way for new business leads and contracts for the Malaysian economy. Overall, further advancing Malaysia’s recognition and standing as the top-of-mind preferred destination for business events in both the region and the world.
