Malaysia eager to welcome visitors from the Middle East

Once again, Malaysia is welcoming back visitors from the Middle East following two years of hiatus. Businesses in the tourism sector are hoping to attract those who especiallyvisit for family holidays.


The tourism industry of Malaysiathis year has been improving its promotional activities in order to attract 2 million international visitors, after the the reopening of the country’s borders in April and also topermit quarantine-free travel.


MohmedRazip Hajji Hasan, the director-general of the Islamic Tourism Center, which isaunit under the Ministry of Tourism said thatthey havetaken part in Arabian Travel Market, and they have seen how eager they are to travel.


He said that people are considering experiencing travel once again, and thus, the tourism industry players can gain much from the reopening of borders to entice this niche market, which is known for their longer stays and higher expenditure.


The pandemic had made the Malaysian tourism industry come to a complete stop, and this year’s target is more than 10 times lower than the 26.1 million visitors thatthe country hadwitnessed in 2019.


Malaysia is quite popular with visitors from the Middle East, ranking as a top country in the Global Muslim Travel Index since 2015.


In order to create a friendly environment for the Mideast travelers, Hasan said that the Malaysian ministry is working with airlines, tour operators and hoteliers, so that they can offer privacy and safe spaces for families.
