Many people now are curious as to when they can travel abroad and what the future of the tourism will look like.


In spite of fears that holidays are off the cards for this year, Malaysia is working hard to make sure that the industry survives in these tough times.
The Covid-19 pandemic hit international and domestic travel leading to cancellation of Visit Malaysia 2020.


Malaysia Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri is confident that the government can ensure business continuity.


Malaysia registered 4.25 million tourist arrivals in the first half of this year, although it is a decline of 68.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.


The tourist expenditure recorded RM12.5 billion for the first six months of this year, marking a 69.8 per cent fall from RM41.6 billion.


The tourism industry of Malaysia will need to acclimatize and introduce new initiatives for domestic travelers.


The hospitality industry needs to introduce new measures for enticing tourists while being concerned about their safety.


Hoteliers in the Klang Valley and other cities are offering work-from-hotel packages, while restaurants are offering a wide assortment of food on their premises or for delivery.


Travel agencies have started to offer digital tourism or virtual tour packages using augmented reality. Hence, the tourism industry can thrive by offering practical options for holidaying.


Travelers need to stick to social distancing guidelines and other measures in holiday destinations for curbing the spread of the virus.
