Maldives sees a strong footfall from UK , 10.2 per cent year-on-year increase

As compared to 2017 the Maldives saw a 10.2 per cent year-on-year increase in the total number of UK visitor arrivals last year in comparison to 2017.



Last year a total of 114,602 UK tourists arrived in the Indian Ocean destination and 2017 had 103,977.



In December 10,784 tourists visited the Maldives showing an increase of 11 per cent as compared to the 9.717 UK visitors in 2017.



In 2018 the holidaymakers from the UK were accountable for 7.7 per cent of the total arrivals in Maldives. The second largest European inbound market for tourism to the Maldives is UK which is also the third largest globally.



As compared to the total arrivals in 2017 Maldives welcomed 1.48 million international tourists globally in 2018 showing a 6.8 per cent year-on-year increase.



The Maldives minister of tourism, Ali Waheed stated that  UK is one of the Maldives’ most important inbound markets for tourism. He was extremely pleased to see a continued increase in the number of British travellers who choose to holiday there.



In 2019 they will  welcome the opening of several new exceptional four-star and luxury resorts  and was looking  forward to welcome even more new and returning UK guests to their island.



In 2018 the destination received several industry awards and bagged the World’s Leading Dive Destination at the World Travel Awards held in December.
