Mandya to be transformed into a tourism hub, says minister

On Monday, the YAI Multi Class Youth Sailing and Kiteboard Championship have started and in progress at the KRS backwaters located in Mandya district.


The Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports, Narayana Gowda, inaugurated the event. He said that Mandya district provided huge possibility for tourism and it would be transformed into a tourism hub in the coming days.


On Monday, the national ranking event which got underway will continue till August 13th, 2022. It’s being conducted together by the Mandya district administration in partnership with the Madras Engineering Group of the Indian Army and General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure. Over 120 teams from all over India are participating in the championship.


The minister in his inaugural speech explained that the event gives the young sailors a chance to demonstrate their talent and ability in the sector and is the best forum to take a major leap into international events. Mr. Narayana gowda stated that his ministry had allocated grant of Rs.15 lakh to encourage this sport and he would build up Mandya into a major tourism hub.


Gopaliah, the district in-charge minister, mentioned that in 2023, an international sailing event will be organized in the KRS backwaters. Mr. Gopalaiah also said that four sailors, who participated in the event 2021, went on to partake in the international competitions. He even stated that all steps would be taken care of by the government to promote sailing in Karnataka.
