Travel, tourism, food and beverage industry stakeholders in Mangaluru have expressed their worries regarding the evening curfew from 6 pm to 6 am. They said that such needless curbs are causing huge loss of business, and deterring tourists, which have brought immense financial loss to the district.

Many vendors solely depend on the earnings from their carts. They expressed their grievances that they are already badly affected due to the pandemic, and communal pressure in the region is further driving away their incomes. The management needs to consider their predicament, enforcing pertinent rules.

Stakeholders from the food and beverage trade expressed their annoyance, and asked why the district administration is considering shutting down alcohol shops and restaurants serving liquor.

For the food and beverage industry, business was slowly gathering momentum after the pandemic. The industry employed additional staff, after the improvement in situation. The sudden limits have proved to be a blow. The food industry does decent business during the weekend, but it has been a failure due to the constraints. The liquor segment pays maximum tax to the government; however, the district management has ordered it to be shut down for several days. This is improper, opined Ashish Shetty of Hotel Foodlands.

Stany D’Souza, an autorickshaw driver, condemned the district administration. He said that a lot of autorickshaw drivers like him worked till 9 pm or 10 pm daily to earn extra money. However, that too has been taken away.
