Henry Boot Development has started working in partnership with the hotel management company, Khanna Enterprises to usher in a 130-bed hotel at its Silk Works development in the area of Spinningfields. Currently, it is known as Invicta House.
Originally, the developers had secured planning to develop the building for office use at the end of last year.
However, they have now overhauled their plans for the construction of a hotel. It would be located on Atkinson Street and Scott Place. This would be an eight-storey scheme and would include the extension of Invicta House that would add an additional 35,000 square feet space to the existing 15,000 square feet.
This new extension would be placed behind the existing façade on Atkinson Street, along with the new build element that is clad in weathered steel.
Moxy had been launched in the year 2016 with its first hotel in Milan.
It then debuted in the UK in December last year at Aberdeen International Airport. It is here that Henry Boot Developments is also delivering the £330 million Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre. Dean Thompson, who is the regional manager for Henry Boot Developments in the north west stated that Silk Works is a unique and wonderful building based in a lovely location and obviously therefore it is the best choice for the first Moxy hotel of Manchester.
He added that the hotel would be a grand addition to the hospitality wing of the city.
The Director of Khanna Enterprises, Anil Khanna said that they are truly waiting to bring a new brand to Manchester, Moxy by Marriott and he believes that it would be quite successful mainly because of the unique location of Spinningfields, and would be ideal for business as well as leisure tourists.
