Published on : Wednesday, April 21, 2021

With cases of COVID-19 increasing in India, states are implementing new rules and guidelines for restraining the virus. Meghalaya too has done the same, prohibiting entry of tourists from April 23 onwards. Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma came to this decision after reviewing the situation in the state. The new rule entails that you might not be able to travel to your favorite and beautiful hill state in the current scenario.

In a tweet Sangma said, “Meghalaya will close its doors to tourists from outside the state from April 23, 2021. However, local tourism will continue.”

Hence, if you are from Meghalaya itself, you can still travel around within the state, and have a good time. But one has to follow all COVID-19 protocols like wearing masks and social distancing.

Sangma said further that tourist destinations with a lot of footfall will be shut for the time being; however, the RT-PCR test report’s time frame has been reduced to 48 hours from 72. Meghalaya has also gone ahead with closure of schools for two weeks, till May 4.

Meghalaya’s biggest tourist attractions are Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, among others. It is also home to the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong. Visiting these fantastic places will not be possible for the next few days till the COVID situation gets better. Even after it gets better, tourists need to travel with caution.
