Two federal Customs and Border Protection sources confirmed that an immigration agent at Miami International Airport tested positive for the coronavirus.
On Monday, the CBP notified the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department about the positive COVID-19 case .
Although it is not known when the agent began having symptoms but the person has not to returned to work since getting tested late last week.
The officer’s work areas in concourses D, F and J have since been deep cleaned after that.
On any reported cases the federal agency is not sharing information and it declined to comment on whether or not anybody who has had contact with the agent was told to self-quarantine.
A CBP spokesperson said that the CBP’s highest priority is to ensure the health, safety, and security of the American people and their workforce. CBP has issued guidance to all their employees that outlines the current comprehensive use of personal protective equipment. They are taking every precaution to keep the workforce safe.
Workers are provided with protective gears and two federal source with knowledge of the case said that it has informed colleagues who had been in contact with the infected agent, but that travelers who may have had contact with the person have not been notified.
