MICE expected to surpass 30million with 2018 visitor arrivals

ThailandNearly 30.2 million people, both locals and foreigners are expected to make corporate trips in Thailand this year that would generate as much as 174 billion baht.

 

The president of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya mentioned that 1.19 million foreigners are estimated to visit Thailand in 2018 for functions involving meetings, incentives¸ conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry.

 

They are slated to contribute MICE revenues amounting to 112 billion baht.

 

For the domestic market over 29 million people are expected to make business trips and contribute an income of 62 billion baht via the various events of the MICE sector.

 

In 2017 Thailand had welcomed 36 million MICE travellers that would be generating a revenue of 180 billion baht.

 

Out of these, 1.04 million comprised international tourists that generated 88.5 billion baht in terms of revenue while 35.5 million were domestic MICE tourists who contributed about 91.1 billion in revenue.

 

In January to June 2018 over 350 conventions had been scheduled in Thailand, in addition to several confirmed meetings from now till the end of the year.

 

Up to 45% of the events would be held in Bangkok and the rest would take place at MICE cities nationwide including Khon Kaen, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and also reputed destinations like Udon Thani, Songhkha, Chiang Rai, Nakhon Ratchasima and so on.

 

Mr. Chiruit also went on to add that the MICE industry of Thailand would continue to show positive signs of growth as consequence of collaboration by all public and private sector stakeholders.

 

Some of the biggest events to be organized in the initial half of 2018 include the 2018 MDRT Experience and Global Conference.

 

This is expected to bring 4,500 international delegates and 1,000 Thai delegates to the event in the period between 8th and 10th February and the 11th Asian Pacific Poultry Conference in the period between 25th and 27th March with 600 global delegates and 500 Thai guests.

Thailand would also hosts the World Cyber Games 2018 that is the world’s biggest international eSport event, in Bangkok in the period 26th April to 29th April at Impact Muang Thong Thani.

 

And over 10,000 participants are expected to join this event.

 

ProPak Asia 2018 has been scheduled for the period 13th to 16th June that would bring in 50,000 international business visitors and some 7,500 Thai business people to the exhibition.

 

Santi Laoboonsa-ngiem who is the deputy governor of Khon Kaen province said that the PATA Destination Marketing Forum 2018 would be held in November this year.
