Ministers inspect hotels’ commitment to minimum internet speed

All hotel establishments are obligated to raise their minimum internet speed in preparation 27th Conference of Parties on Climate Change that will be organized this November. Khaled El-Anany and Amr Talaat, the ministers of Tourism and Antiquities and Communications respectively, came to organized a meeting to investigate the latest developments regarding enhancing the efficiency of internet speeds in hotel establishments of all kinds across Egypt, especially in Sharm El-Sheikh.

This decision is applicable on all five, four, or three-star hotels, as well as floating hotels in Sharm El-Sheikh. These must be upgraded within three months, with the remaining facilities across Egypt given leeway till the end of 2022. Fiber-optic cables are laid to connect the external network to each facility’s telecommunications room in 50% of the total number of hotels in Sharm El-Sheikh. The cables will be laid within one month so that these facilities can begin contracting for high-speed internet services.

Training courses are being organised by both ministries to measure the performance and quality of internet networks in hotels were stressed. National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Information Technology Institute will provide the training for these courses.
