According to the country’s Tourism Observatory, Morocco had 1.9 million tourist arrivals by the end of February 2023, a 464% increase over the same period in 2022.

According to data published by the observatory, the increased trend is due to an increase in international tourist arrivals of 703% and Moroccans resident abroad (MRE) of 324%.

The current MRE arrivals indicate a 149% rise over February 2019, while the international tourist arrivals recovery rate has reached 99% over the same period, according to the observatory.

In terms of outbound tourist markets (going beyond the visitor’s home country), Spain has the greatest recovery rate of 136%, followed by the UK (125%) and Italy (103%), while Germany has the lowest recovery rate of 60%.

Morocco has established itself as a popular tourist destination, and the number of visitors to the north African country is projected to rise in the coming months.

In 2022, the North African country attracted about 11 million tourists, a considerable surge that spurred Tourism Minister Fatim Zahra Ammor to establish a goal of tripling the number of visits to 26 million by 2030.

This month, Ammor published Morocco’s 2023-2026 Roadmap, pledging MAD 6 billion ($592,7 million) for tourism growth.

Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) plans to introduce 35 new flight routes this summer, linking eight Moroccan towns to abroad locations, as part of an effort to increase access to and from the country.

Moreover, with its newly established 2023-2026 action plan dubbed “Light in Action,” which is part of the 2023-2026 tourism strategy, ONMT intends to put Morocco among the world’s Top 10 destinations.

Morocco received tremendous exposure as a result of the national team’s historic victory in the 2022 World Cup.

The Atlas Lions’ remarkable success at the World Cup, according to Dubai-based media intelligence provider CARMA, has substantially strengthened the country’s reputation as a tourism destination.
