In the middle of huge rise in Covid-19 infections and deaths, on Friday night, Usha Thakur, MP tourism minister, conducted a puja before a statue of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar at Indore airport, seeking blessings in the fight against the pandemic.
The MLA from Mhow constituency was not wearing a mask at the airport premises when she performed the ‘puja’ for about half an hour. This puja session was joined by the airport director and other staff members as well. In video going viral, Minister, Usha Thakur is seen chanting mantras, praying and clapping before the statue of Devi Ahilyaba Holkar.
Airport director, Aryama Sanyal, explained that it was the decision of the minister to seek blessings of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar in the fight against the deadly virus. “People of Indore and nearby regions seek blessings of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar in any crisis. So did the minister,” she said.
“Minister Usha Thakur Ji wanted to pray before the deity to s eek blessings to get rid of the pandemic. So we made arrangements for the prayer while ensuring compliance of all Covid-19 norms,” Sanyal said, adding, “The intention was good, and people must respect it.”
